Artfully Inspired

Placer One Public Art

Art can express ideas and form connections like few things can. We’ve weaved its influence into the heart of all of Placer One’s shared spaces to inspire a stronger sense of community at a glance. It is our hope that the public art and artistic infrastructure we’ve implemented will enhance the community’s quality of life, prompt meaningful interactions and exploration, and establish a sense of identity unique to Placer One.

Our Partners

The Placer One Art Initiative is a collaboration between Taylor Builders, VIA Partnership, and Graham Projects. We have also partnered with Sacramento State and Sierra College to create a strong connection between the community and campus and to develop opportunities for students, faculty and alumni to participate in public art projects. Additionally, we have and will continue to partner with local artists throughout this project to promote and support their important work.

Current Projects

Phase 1 of Placer One is predominantly residential in nature. A variety of Public Art projects are planned for parks, paseos, neighborhood monuments, and other select locations.

Neighborhood Monumentation Project

We are excited to share that Annie Howe of Annie Howe Papercuts has designed the first three neighborhood monuments for Phase 1A. Annie creates handmade papercuts for businesses, publications and private collections; these papercuts can be translated into a variety of applications. For Placer One, Annie designed three unique neighborhood monuments that match the street names in Phase 1A: shrubs, trees, and plants; grasses; minerals and rocks.

Landmark Projects

Landmark projects will mark entrances to Placer One and transitions between neighborhoods and different types of places within the community. They will be located at important crossroads and will serve as gateways, welcoming people and guiding residents and visitors through the community. Landmark projects are recommended for the Welcome Center, University Village Drive and Town Center Lane, and/or other key entrances. Also included in this category are smaller scale landmarks in the form of a series of artworks to be incorporated into the monument markers at entrances to the Villages.

Connector Projects

Connector projects will enhance people’s experiences of the network of shared spaces that form the heart of Placer One – the paseos, parks, and sidewalks where the small, but important interactions of daily life happen. Connector projects will help people form meaningful connections to each other and Placer One. They may include projects such as a Transit Shelter Poster Art Program, small sculptural artworks along the paseos, and community workshops to decorate the Little Free Libraries.

Parks Projects

Parks projects will support the intended uses and themes of Placer One’s many parks, providing additional amenities to park users and creating distinctive elements that express the community’s commitment to art. They may include ping pong table painting, parkour course painting, perforated patterns for the overhead shade structures, banners for light poles, and a potential future sculptural water harvesting project.

Artistic Streetscape Elements

To further connect Placer One’s artistic vision throughout its neighborhoods, we have plans for several streetscape furnishings. Custom benches, litter and recycling bins, bike racks, kiosks, small free libraries, bird and insect hotels, and bus shelters are all being considered. Each piece’s design will reflect its natural surroundings and distinguish Placer One as a uniquely creative community with a strong sense of place.

Wayfinding

Placer One will have a complementary artistic outdoor wayfinding system to guide visitors and residents throughout the ongoing development.
