Sacramento State Placer

Placer One has a major focus on education. At its core is Sacramento State Placer, a 300 acre collaboration between Sacramento State and Sierra College. The California State University Board of Trustees approved the master plan in 2024. Through an agreement between Sacramento State and Sierra College also signed that year, the Placer campus will provide a seamless, concurrent enrollment system that allows students to take courses at Sierra College and Sacramento State simultaneously.

First Campus Building: County Forensic Science Laboratory

Sacramento State Placer will be a “communiversity” in that it will be created and sustained through partnerships between the colleges and other public and private entities in the local community. To that end, the Placer County Forensic Science Laboratory, the first building on the campus, has a planned groundbreaking for the Spring of 2027 and planned opening in the Fall of 2028. This joint project between Placer County and Sacramento State Placer will include a working lab for forensic science professionals, alongside instructional space to support classes included in Sacramento State Placer’s planned Bachelor of Science program. In 2025, the Placer County Board of Supervisors allocated $2.5 million to move forward with the design of the Forensics Lab building. The total project cost is expected to be over $30 million.  To learn more, visit the Sac State Placer Forensics Science Lab Fact Sheet.
